Samsung and some manufacturers, including Google, seem to be addressing towards a folding phone future. Microsoft is also, but it has a very different definition of folding. Describe your surface duo as a “double-screen folding” and, true, it was good for a good good case, almost two years ago. The delivery of it, however, was anything but convincing and was quite outdated even before leaving through the door. For those who still hold a torch for the device, the Duo 2 surface could result in what should have been the first Microsoft dual screen folding, and, depending on the last flight, it should arrive soon.
The problem with the surface duo was more hardware than the software. The latter is easier to fix with updates and patches, but the mobile hardware is not exactly replaceable once they are there. When the surface duo was announced for the first time, it was already revealed that he was using less than recent hardware, even more when he finally launched a year later.
Based on the central Windows information, the DUO 2 surface, at least, will have the updated specifications, at least for 2021. That means a Snapdragon 888 at least and, hopefully, also more RAM. The only main camera does not need a partner, but it should also be updated.
This, of course, depends on whether the device will be sent this year this year. According to the site, the good news is that this autumn could eventually happen, circa September or October. Microsoft has repeatedly delayed the launch of the first surface duo, so even fans have reasons to be cautiously optimistic about this timeline.
Time is all in this business and, unfortunately, the surface duo 2 will not be sent with Android 12 because of that. That is good and good, as long as Microsoft sends a more stable version of the software and has had more than a year to get that right.
