Joseph Christian “Jaw” Chestnut (born November 25, 1983) is American competitive eater. Competitive eaters as high as 6 feet (1.8 m), 218-pounds (99 kg) are currently ranked first in the world by international federations. He is a Vallejo, California Native who is currently in San Jose, California.
On July 4, 2007, Chestnut won the 92nd annual hot dog eating contest, defeating the defending champion six Takeru “Tsunami” Kobayashi by consuming 66 hot dogs and bread (HDB) in 12 minutes, which set a new world record. The following year, he managed to defend his title by winning 5 Hot Dog Eat-Off after tying Kobayashi in consuming 59 HDB in 10 minutes. On July 4, 2009, Chestnut surpassed Kobayashi again, taking a new world record 68 HDB and won his third title in a row. On July 4, 2010, Chestnut took home the 4th consecutive mustard belt at 54 HDB. The 2010 contest was an escape victory, because Kobayashi did not compete because of a contract dispute with a major league meal. On July 4, 2011, he won the fifth consecutive championship with 62 HDB. 2012 marked the sixth consecutive victory, when Chestnut binded his own world record from 2009 by devouring 68 HDB. In 2013, Chestnut captured the seventh degree straight, ate a total of 69 HDB, breaking the previous world record.
